Albuquerque Celebrates New Mexico?s Centennial

New Mexico?s second century of statehood began with the loud sound of vehicle horns and locomotive whistles in downtown Albuquerque Friday.

The loud noise followed Mayor Richard Berry?s proclamation at 11:35a.m., the precise moment President William H. Taft signed the proclamation making New Mexico the 47th state of the United States of American in 1912.

??A hundred year ago, President Taft signed New Mexico into statehood with the words, ?I am glad to give you life and I trust that you will be healthy?,? said Mayor Richard J. Berry.

The event was organized by the ABQ Ride, who also used the event to celebrate the legacy of the legacy of the old Alvarado Hotel.

HBT: Angels' Morales continues to improve

Kendrys Morales is still a major question mark nearly two years removed from breaking his lower left leg while jumping onto home plate following a game-winning-home grand slam, but he did get some good news after visiting his doctor in Colorado earlier this week.

According to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times, Morales was cleared to ?ramp up? some baseball activities. While he was previously jogging on a ?de-weighted? treadmill and hitting off a tee in Arizona, he has already begun running under his own body weight.?The real test will come when Morales begins running the bases aggressively, but this is a very positive early sign.

The Angels tendered Morales a contract this offseason, despite the fact that he hasn?t played in a?professional game since May 29, 2010. The 28-year-old switch-hitter figures to make around $4 million in his second year of arbitration, but the benefits are obviously huge if he can bounce back to his 2009 form. Mark Trumbo is behind in his rehab from foot surgery, but the Angels still have enough depth that they can afford to bring Morales along slowly.

Digital music finally outsells physical media, books look on in alarm

That sharp sucking of air you heard at the end of 2010, well, that was the record industry wincing as sales of CDs continued to tumble while digital media sales remained flat. The relieved exhale that you just heard echoing through the atmosphere? That was the collective sigh of executives who just picked up the latest Nielsen report indicating that digital music sales are on the rise again and, for the first time ever, have finally surpassed physical media. Sales as a whole were up, but while CDs were down 5.7 percent, digital track sales were up 8.4 percent and digital albums a stunning 19.5 percent (perhaps most interestingly, though, vinyl was up over 36 percent). CDs still outsell virtual albums by a factor of two, but it's clear the trend toward binary media is back on track. It may be a narrow victory but, with 50.3 percent of the market, audio files are new king of the hill. Check out the full report at the source.
